Nasal Reconstruction Orange County

Since the nose is the most prominent feature on the face – it follows that injury to the nose is the most common form of facial trauma. A facial fracture usually involves the nose, and a nasal fracture typically includes a deviated septum and other distortions, which hinder normal nasal function and create an unpleasing appearance. More than 1 million people choose to have a “nose job” each year. Birth defects, disease such as cancer – even previous surgery – can affect nasal function and appearance – requiring nasal reconstruction.

Nasal Reconstruction in Orange County and Irvine
Nasal reconstruction – also called SeptoRhinoplasty – involves any nasal work following trauma to the nose such as: nasal fracture, facial fracture, difficulty breathing, or skin cancer repair. Nasal reconstruction surgical procedures correct the nose in order to restore function and improve the cosmetic appearance. Septoplasty corrects a deviated septum to restore normal breathing – while Rhinoplasty is performed for cosmetic reasons to reshape the nose. SeptoRhinoplasty may be done in combination following trauma to achieve both cosmetic and functional results.

GOOD CANDIDATES:
Anyone who has suffered trauma to the face and/or nose and who needs to correct nasal function and form is a good candidate for Nasal Reconstruction. Dr. Yeh will determine the treatment best suited to your specific needs and will individualize your treatment plan. If you desire a “nose job” for correction from previous surgery – or just because you don’t like the nose you have – you should be at lest 15 years of age to ensure your nose is fully developed.

YOUR CONSULTATION:
Dr. Yeh believes that the initial consultation is most important and should be done face to face with your surgeon. After listening closely and carefully to your concerns, Dr. Yeh is able to do a critical evaluation and make the correct recommendations to address your specific needs. It is during the consultation that you both arrive at a mutual understanding and trust which enables Dr. Yeh to tailor the treatment plan that is best suited to you – not somebody else.

NASAL RECONSTRUCTION PROCEDURE:
Dr. Yeh will either use local anesthesia with sedation – or general anesthesia depending upon your procedure. Nasal reconstruction can take from 45 minutes to several hours – depending upon the extensiveness, complexity and whether or not you are having a combination of procedures. Incisions are made either inside the nose or outside (depends upon your surgery) and splints are usually required after nasal surgery. Dr. Yeh uses the most advanced and refined techniques to correct deviated septums and remove any obstructions as well as to reshape the nose. If reconstruction is being done after cancer removal – Dr. Yeh may use Moh’s reconstruction to restore a normal, pleasing appearance and function. Swelling, bruising and some discomfort is normal and to be expected with any surgery – but especially with nasal surgery. You will need to sleep with your head elevated on 2-3 pillows while healing takes place and to help reduce swelling. Dr. Yeh’s patients manage any discomfort easily with oral pain medication while it resolves over a few days. You will be restricted from strenuous activities such as bending, lifting, straining and working-out until Dr. Yeh tells you it’s ok to resume normal activities – usually 3 weeks.

Healing takes time – swelling & bruising disguise all results until fully resolved – & final results may take months to become totally visible.
